Holliday's Survey of the said River kept in ye Merchants Hall at Bristol." Shows coast of Wales from Peterson to Weston and Coast of Somerset from Brint to Bristol.

This is the earliest extant antique map of Monmouthshire published in 1579 by Christopher Saxton in his "Atlas of England and Wales". It bears the watermark of a bunch of grapes which authorities on watermarks believe to be the earliest. The colouring is original and shows a little age toning which is associated with these early maps.

This antique county map of Monmouthshire is from a rare edition of "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain" by John Speed, published in 1616 with Latin text on the verso. The maps were generally published uncoloured, but a few copies of the atlas were coloured at the time. This map is from one of those scarce editions.
